Toshiba won't connect to Netgear wireless router..
Hey guys,
Just installed Ubuntu 11 onto my Toshiba Satellite L25 and am having trouble connecting to my router. It connects to another Netgear that is a neighbor that is unlocked but will not connect to mine. I thought it was a driver issue at first but the fact that I can connect to another kind of eliminates that. What I have tried so far: I tried to enter in a manual IP address and could connect to the router but had no internet access. I tried plugging directly into wireless with no success either. I am going to try to plug it directly into the modem real quick to see if that's a problem. It did work with windows, and when I had Ubuntu on my main pc it worked as well. There is no Windows on the laptop, strictly Ubuntu. Will update after I try to plug the modem directly into laptop... |
Direct plug into modem worked instantly...assuming this is a router/IP address problem...

If that's not the issue, I assume the router is using DHCP? Maybe for whatever reason the wireless card isn't getting or accepting the right IP address? Try the manual entry again of IP address for wireless card and double-check your gateway/dns addresses. |
Yes the one I can connect to is unsecured...OK, the router see's the computer now and I am on the network with no internet connection. I am guessing my gateway address is wrong.

*fixed..had to manually put in the IP address and the other good stuff. For some reason it was using an incompatible IP address
