Tightvnc and keycodes?

Hi,

I am using tightvnc with 4 terminal sessions on Ubuntu 6.06.1 (tested on Slackware 10.1 too with KDE and GNOME). I have a problem with the keyboard layout switching. As you know Xvnc is not supporting the XKEYBOARD extension, so "setxkbmap" is not working at all. The only option is xmodmap. However keycodes are different under console sessions and tightvnc sessions i.e. "comma" keycode 59 is keycode 34 under tightvnc. If I use "xmodmap /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.us" everything is mismatched, due to this offset in the keycodes. Can somebody tell me if there is a way to make tightvnc keycodes correspond to the console keycodes (without having to edit the xmodmaps)? I will be much obliged if someone suggest other alternatives to switching of keyboard layouts.

Regards,
Todor
