Testing Samba Speed With dd

I recently read a little howto (and lost it) on how you could test your samba speed, or any file tranfer speed with dd by basically copying a portion of random data onto your samba mount.

Ive looked at the man pages for the dd command and cant really work it out

can anyone help?

Get
http://us1.samba.org/samba/ftp/xfertest/xfertest

You will have to do a chmod +x on xfertest to make it
executable.

The manpage is xfertest.1 which you can copy to
/usr/share/man/man1

I would think that cp would work as well as dd for these needs.

For dd usually just setting if and of parameters correctly is enough.
