I am about to upgrade my main Linux FC1 server to FC2. All my other Linux boxes are FC2., plus some Windows 2000 and XP Pro.
My problem: This last server runs a caching DNS server, NTP, Apache, Samba, CUPS and dhcp.
I can live without my web server, samba, ntp and cups during the upgrade. My wife needs DNS and dhcp (her company's VPN is strange --- requires DHCP rather than fixed IP, but that's another story)
I was thinking of making one of my other FC2's as a temporary dns and dhcp server. However, I don't want to reconfigure the M$ machines. So I was thinking of adding a CNAME entry after the temporary DNS server's name
i.e. fc2server01 A 192.168.1.30
MX 10 postmaster
MX 20 postmaset.mydomain.com
mydns CNAME fc2server
www CNAME fc2server
Now the confusion is what to do with the PTR records for mydns? Do I remove them or can I make an alias with a CNAME?
Thanks
Ed
