Question Telnet yet again. (refusing connections)

I need to telnet to a Redhat 7.1 m/c from my Win2000 m/c both on the same LAN.

My problem is that when i say "telnet <ip>" in windows or use Putty, the linux machine isn't found, and putty reports connection reset by peer.

-> Pinging the machine is successful.
-> chkconfig --list shows " telnetn".
-> telnet localhost on the linux machine itself works flawlessly.

I think this may have something to do with security settings and firewalls. I have no clue on how to figure those out, so please be specific on what i should do.

To check if all incomming connections are rejected
-> i started apache web server. All http calls are rejected too. Server not found
-> i turned on the vnc server and tried using winVnc to connect to the machine but that was rejected too.

Thanks in advance for your solutions.

As root type,

service iptables stop

In linuxconf you can disable the service permanently.

Those are your firewall rules.

Thumbs up Problem Solved!

I did the following (as root)

#service iptables stop
#service xinetd restart

In addition i used ntsysv to permanently turn off the iptables and ipchains.
Finally I restarted my machine.
The problem is solved.

Thanks Thoreau!
