Telnet and SSH

I have a remote sytem that i'm using as a telnet server. I was wondering if I can use SSH at home to logon to my remote system ? Is that possible or does the remote system have to be using the SSH server ?

Btw, everytime I tried to use SSH to logon on my LAN computer, SSH doesnt let my specify a port number to use, it keeps using port 22 by default. Doesn't SSH and telnet use the same commands to logon "SSH hostname/ip 23"? That command still restrics me to use port 22 for some reason? How do you specify what port numbers you want using SSH?

And help will be appreciated.

Try using "ssh hostname/ip -p *portnumber*"

refer to this page for more information:
