Teaming NIC's ?
 

Hello all. I was recently asked if I knew how to "team" two nic cards together. The fellow told me that it increases bandwith. He said 2 10/100 cards=20/200 . I've never heard of this but he has accomplished it on Windows using some software. How is this accomplished?

I worked on a Windows based NAS Server which has 2 gigabit NICs and 2 10/100 Mbps NICs in it.

So what happens is that you can team two NICs into one.. following are the types of teaming that can be achived in this --

1. Load Balancing Mode
2. Fault Tolerance Mode

.. there are few more but i m not able to recall this as of now.

Check out on IBM Machines that have windows XP installed on the same.. you'll find that .. i saw it once..

Yeah, you can do it. It's called load balancing. Do a google search.

Edit: It has been called load balancing, but that phrase appears to have been coopted to mean distributed computing. You can also find it under the name of ethernet channel bonding, among others.
