Unhappy tcp problems with licq

hi,

i use mandrake 9.0 and i just installed licq (the version that comes with the package). when i try to run licq it tells me:

00:40:08: [WRN] Licq: Ignoring stale lockfile (pid 3676)
00:40:09: [WRN] Failed to start local TCP server:
Permission denied
00:40:09: [ERR] Unable to allocate TCP port for local server (No ports available)!

when i log on as root it works just fine.
how can i fix this problem (how can i manage tcp access right???)

thanx for your help

I have the same problem with Redhat 8.0. I setup the O/S and found the file and made the desktop shortcut and all that good stuff.
Then in my user mode I couldn't connect the thing, so I went to ICQ setup a new user account and I still had a problem. So I downloaded the most current update and all that good stuff.
Ran the RPM op to uninstall the old one and install the new one and verify etc.
I can run it in root but when I go to run it in my user workspace I get the same message as you did except I only get that info when I do a shutdown. If I find out what the problem is I will pass it on.

It's kind of a drag not being able to surf in LICQ.

This trouble is due the fact that normal users can't create socket using port < 1024.
To solve this edit the ~/.licq/licq.conf and change the TCPPortsLow parameter to a new one > 1024.
