Question Tar and Log

Hi ,

Is there any way of making the tar command log its activity ?
I dont mean the standard redirection operators ( > etc)... i mean a genuine log file created by tar utility itself .

Thanks.

regards,
Xanthium.

Can you be a little more specific... exactly what are you trying to accomplish?

Just curious .... sorry for trouble.

Hi SixPax ,

Well iam not trying to accomplish anything ..... i was just curious if Tar created some log file or sort (in /tmp or any other place) ofcourse i can use the tee command ( to get a log of its activity) but was curious if tar had some hidden option not mentioned in man pages ... ha ha ha.

Thanks for your replay and sorry for the trouble.

With Regards ,
Xanthium.

No trouble at all... tar doesn't do any type of logging other than the output you see when you run the command.
