talk/ytalk in X
Hi,
I have a question about 'talk/ytalk', when I'm logged in as Root in X-windows, other people can't request talk to me. if i'm logged in in a 'regular terminal' they can. I can request talk to them, but they can't request me. They get an error message saying 'other party is refusing connection' or something like that. thanks for your time //Santiago |
I need help also.
I have the same problem. I am currently using Mandrake 10.
My problem is this. I have an outside user connect via SSH and I want for them to be able to ytalk me. The problem is in the way that Mandrake handles tty. If I have the system auto login one of my users (locally into X) and I start an xterm and do a who command it shows nothing. If I don't have it set to auto login and I actually log in from the console and then startx, I open an xterm and if I do who it shows my user on vc/1. No matter how many xterms I open that's all it'll show. Of course this is the console I ran startx from. If I try to ytalk all messages are sent to that console but I can't see it because I'm in X. Now if I su to root and then open a new xterm as root who will show root as being on pts/(number varies). From here the outside user can ytalk the root user by using the command, ytalk root@pts/(N). (I don't want this, I want them to be able to talk to a regular user.) The problem is I don't understand how Mandrake is handling this. In all the other distros I've used if I opened and xterm each one would show under who with it's corresponding pts/(N). But since it's not giving me a new tty how do I direct messages to a specific Xterm? I'm sorry if this post is confusing. I hope someone can help me out. |
