Symbolic links to other machines on a network.

Hello.

I have my music collection stored in /home/Chris/Music and another music collection on another (Windows XP) machine stored in a shared folder in C:\Documents and Settings\Liz\Desktop\Shared, or smb://lol/Shared.
I have my Windows machine set to a workgroup called Chris and the machine's 'name', as you can see, is "lol".

I want to make it so Apollon, Amarok and other music/filesharing softwares on my machine can access the WinXP shared folder and be able to save files to it when I download them.
I.e. I want my entire music collection on the Windows XP machine, and I want Apollon to be able to be able to use the Windows XP folder as its download folder.

In the longer term I also want to be able to access shared folders on my linux box from my Windows machine.

Are these things possible?

Thanks! :)

Hi and welcome to LQ. What you need to do is look into a service called samba. It enables file and print sharing between Windows and Linux machines.

Thanks for the welcome!

Yes I have Samba, but I was looking into how I would go about configuring programs like Apollon to save downloaded files onto a folder on a different computer (the Windows one) so I can have my entire music collection on one computer.
Possibly by somehow 'linking' a folder on the Linux box to my shared music folder on the Window$ box, so Linux treats it as the same folder...?

I must apologise for my noobish ways, I realise I probably am talking complete gibberish.

C'est possible? lol

Any help would greatly appreciated.
Make a nub happy!
