Switches and VLANS

In my office network, I have several switch for different subnets on my network like:

Router/Firewall---------DMZ---------Web Server
Switch - basic switch no vlan capability
Proxy

LAN

I want to buy a more powerful commerial strength switch with VLAN capabilities. My question is if I buy on big let say a Cisco Catalyst 6000X series switch will it be able to route different subnets like for example will my 192.168.3.0 network be able to talk to my 192.168.100.4, 172.25.25.1, 172.26.26.1 networks and so on using VLANs for added security and performance enhancements and elliminating any broadcast domains?

the cisco 6000 series is a DSL switch... nothing you'd be interested in. if you mean the 6500 series, then that's some serious gear, and if that's what you want to replace a dumb layer 2 switch i'd be concerned...

There are a number of Cisco switching devices that will route data too, e.g. the 3550 range is not bad, and i'm installing an infrastrcuture based around 3750's at the moment. Anything with a Cisco badge is a substantial cost though...

I have no idea what sort of level you are really operating at, but you have a firewall router there already, would you not rather use that to route the vlans? if you had, for example, a cisco 2950 series switch, which only runs at layer two, and so is not far off of 10% the price of the 3750's, then youd would place each access port on the switch on whatever vlan you want and then use an 802.1q trunk between the switch and the firewall and so use that firewall router as the gateway for each device. if you can't do a trunnk to that firewall.. buy more nic's for it? Cisco IOS / Catos isn't too hot for security, the ACL's are reasonable but do not constitute a security policy really.
