suse11.4 wireless networking issues, cont.

i have a toshiba satellite running suse 11.4 from a router/modem combo. i finally did the most obvious thing to solve the issue i was having obtaining the correct bssid setting for my wireless connection in another thread(http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...stions-926727/), i hooked up to the router with a cat 5e. while connected, i looked at the config of the wireless and the info populated. i then disconnected, and it said authenticating, so i hooked up the other one. when i went back to the first one, it had not connected.
the box popped up asking for the password, once again populated with the correct information, but it didn't get any farther. since i'm a tech, the only excuse i have for this is that it's linux and i work on windows. i have completed two college courses in linux, so it's wearing thin. i've got the firewall off and it even gives me an ip address, but no network access. any help is once again greatly appreciated.
