Suse 9.1 peer to peer networking

Hi, I am a newbie to linux and have had lots of struggles to get my system up and running. I have finally got SuSE 9.1 personal running on both my computers. I have got my ADSL up (hence I can talk to you) but when I tried to setup a network between the two computers I got nowhere. I no of IP addresses, subnet masks etc but don't understand what I need to do in order to network the two computers. I have 2 ethernet cards in the main PC and one in the second PC. My ADSL is in eth0. I have a crossover network cable connecting the two computers. I read that SuSE will only setup 1 eth automatically, is this true? Any help would but very much appreciated. I am aiming to be able to share files, printer, scanner and internet between the PC. Your Lost Newbie...

The 'get around it' way
run Yast
choose your network device
edit the setting of ETH1 to a static IP.
There is a setting to forward packets, check that box.
choose next and finish until yast saves the settings.

The 'Do it right' method.
check out iptablesrocks.org and get a firewall running to protect the main rig and allow packet forwarding on ETH1. There are scripts there that work right away, just download and run it.
