suse 9.1 internet trouble

i just installed suse 9.1 on my windows box on partition. i have a 2.4 ghz intel p4, 1gb ram, 200gb hdd and a compaq 1120 ethernet card. anyways everything works fine with suse except i can't get online. note: im directly connected to a cable modem. yast detects the network card just fine. however there is absolutly no internet. i've tried reconfiguring and dhcp is enabled. still nothing. i have a feeling that the problem may be with the pc's motherboard (a generic POS whose name isn't revealed in system info). in suse the pci bridge drivers are not properly loaded (according to hardware manager or whatever it's called). does anyone have any insight on how to fix this or what to do?

What do you have in /etc/resolv.conf ? Who's your ISP?
