Suse 10.1 DSL modem problem

HI. I'm new to Linux and I am having a problem getting on the internet. I installed SuSe 10.1 on my Asus A7N8X-E system running @1.6 ghz. SuSe detected video, sound, printer, Gigabit lan to a ZyXEL Prestige 600 DSL modem. I used YaST to configure the modem, but have no luck conecting to my ISP. A friend recomemded SuSe 10.1 forme to get my feet wet with Linux and the installation was a breeze except for not being able to get online. What am I not doing right? I have been using the DSL modem with Windows 2000 with out any problems for about 4 years.

Have you set up the net card for DHCP?
run the command (in a console)

I found the modem is working ok It is the the authentication that is the problem and not the modem. Covad Communications is my DSL supplier and they see that I am conected but not authenticated and they don't know what to tell me to do about it.
