Suse 10.1 and Windows Vista 5384

I want to connect a Suse 10.1 workstation to a Vusta machine. The username and password are being rejected by the Vista machine. The user name and password are the user name and password of the administrator of the machine.
The firewall on the Vista machine is turned off. I get a an "Status_access_denied" message when I run Etherall.

Any suggesions?

thanks

This is a problem with Vista. The user is not allowed network access. As a security measure, by default, the Administrator is not allowed to access the computer from the network. This has been true of Windows XP, 2003, and even 2000. I strongly suggest you create another user. An administrator is ok, but THE Administrator should be kept local, and should not be used except in the case of emergency recovery. This is for the same reason that root is blocked telnet and SSH access by default. If you still want to change it, it should be in the Local Security Policy.

Local Security Policy under Vista has a default setting. It is NTLMv2 Response only. The other optiona are Send LM&NTLM- responses; Send LM&NTLM-Use NTLmv2-session seconds; send NTLM Response only; Send NTLMv2 response-onlyefuse LM; and Send NTLMv2 response-onlyefuse LM & NTLM. I have tried the default setting and send lm & NTLM - responses (which is the best way to connect to Windows 2000 machines).
I can connect to the SUSE machine from the Vista machine.
I have also tried another user with same results.

There is no firewall on the machine.
