Suggestion needed for IMAP/POP3
Hi,
what does the IMAP do ? I know this is almost similar like pop3 protocol, but difference is when pop3 is used, mail from server got downloaded. but in case of IMAP, a copy still remain on the server... (??? really  ?). But i think this is not the main difference. If I want to install a mail server with postfix. Do i both need to have pop3 and IMAP running on the server ? or I can use SMTP with IMAP. Plz suggest. |
Postfix is just an SMTP server. It does not provide POP3/IMAP access. As of POP3/IMAP you can take a look at Cyrus or dovecot. Cyrus is known to behave well in large setups as of lots of users.
For the difference part I suggest you google ... for instance 1 result is http://help.isu.edu/disppage.php?doc_id=94&sec_id=17 |
