Unhappy Stupid Telnet Problem

Hello All,

I'm new here and only 2 weeks old in Linux in general.

The problem is I can't telnet into my Linux machine from XP and vice versa. Both are in the same worklgroup.

I can't connect from any of the computers to each other. XP's telnet is running and Linux' xinet.d is also running. From XP, it shows,

"Couldn't open connection to the host, on port 23, connection failed"

Linux Firewall is also disabled.

Plz help.

is telnet itself running? check /etc/xinetd.d/telnet and also, don't run telnet. ever. use ssh instead.

Thx Chris,

I've checked the \etc\xinet.d folder, but there is no file called 'telnet'. But in the terminal when i type 'telnet' it shows the telnet prompt like this:

telnet>

But when i try this command: o xxx.xxx....., it shows:

trying xxx.xxx.....

But that't it, no more procedings !!!

Now what should i do? And how to use sshd to XP also?

you don't have a telnet server installed then...

as for ssh on windows http://linuxmafia.com/ssh/win32.html looks like a good start.
