Stuck in Hotel with dead linux laptop

I have the latest version of Kubuntu install on my Inspiron 6000 laptop. Last night when I got to the hotel, I connected my laptop via the lan card with an ethernet cable. It jumped right on the internet.

This morning, when I went I went to connect - I had no connection. The DHCP could not get an IP address. All I get now is an ip of 10.0.0.61.

My wireless card works, but there is no wireless here.

This is the firs time that I have used the LAN card on this laptop with linux installed.

I am connecting to a DSL modem.

Is there a way to totally reconfigure all of my networking so that everytime I connect, it renews a lease, and draws a DHCP ip address?

I have tried everything that I could find on this forum, and nothing works.

I have disabled....enabled...everything.

I am currently on the internet with a winblows laptop....and it works, as you can see.

Help me get my linux machine back online!

Thanks.

That tends to happen real often. If in a hotel and the network doesn't work first scream at the frontdesk.Last time I had to switch from dhcp to with proxy and back to without proxy three times in 2 weeks.

Never ever pay extra for internet access - if it is down you wont get your money back.

Better to get loaded at the bar anyway if things are doubtful

To the OP: your settings should be just fine and dhcp is normally by default configured to do all that you ask for.

Edit: Didn't see the winblows part - check if it connects with Linux straight after windows. If not do a ifconfig eth0 (if on cable) and see what is there Ip wise and after that check with the windows connection for that params.

What about

/etc/init.d/networking restart

or

dhclient eth0

dhclient3 eth0

You are behind a router that belongs to the hotel I suppose then 10.x.x.x seems fine?

Otherwise, grab the ip of windows and put it static in linux

Hotels have a lot of different auth/ip mechanism.
