I am using ubuntu 9.04 on both machines on a wireless Internet connection router Is a wrt54g running ddwrt other machine is using a wusb54g.Now the problem when I try to transfer a large file lets say 2 gigs I get about 1.5 meg transfers for about 30 seconds and my wireless disconnects.Just tell me what to take a hammer to Because i don't have a clue how to fix this. Good wishes to you all.
Have you checked other settings such as what frequency/channel your router is using (like 802.11b or 802.11g).
Sometimes changing the encryption type helps. Change to WEP encryption (or no encryption) temporarily and see if your connectivity issues improve.
Also try checking with the LinkSys websites and see what firmware updates are available. It may be prudent to update the firmware anyways.
Even reinstalling the extended ddwrt firmware may help the problem. If the situation does not improve try using the factory firmware and see if you still experience issues. If you stop experiencing issues then maybe you just had a bad firmware version before or maybe there is a bug affecting all versions of it.
