I am running Bind 9.4 on Gentoo Linux and have a problem with my DNS.
I have setup a .com domain, a .ca domain, and a .org domain. I have set them up all the same way yet the .org does not work.
I added the DNS information about 6 days ago so propogation is not the problem.
I have been told by my domain name registrar that my DNS server has been added to the .org foreign registry so that is not the problem.
When I run the whois command it says my domain name server is penguin.jasoncarson.ca which is correct. However, when I try to visit my .org domain I get an error saying the domain name does not exist.
When I run nslookup an error saying the server can't find the domain.
Is there anything special I have to add to my configuration for a .org domain so it works?
No, I am querying my ISP DNS server. I contacted my ISP and they queried another name server and they had the same result as I did. It didn't work.
When I nslookup my .org domain with my own DNS (penguin.jasoncarson.ca) everything works and seems fine.
The problem, it seems, is that when my domain name registrar requests the DNS information from me (penguin.jasoncarson.ca) something is not working properly but I don't know what that could be.
As I said above I have configured my .com and .ca domains the same way as my .org domain but the .org domain isn't working.
FYI your domain can be resolved from here.
The problem is that running dig +trace for your domain gives results intermittently.
I get an answer from your dns (penguin.jasoncarson.ca) and a SERVFAIL from both ns.teksavvy.com and ns2.teksavvy.com. Are these 2 your ISP nameservers?
You should contact your ISP/registrar and tell him to remove the 2 dns (ns.teksavvy.com, ns2.teksavvy.com) from your record, or configure them to forward the queries to your nameserver.
The domain I am trying to get working is called uberpage.org (Can you guys view it because it doesn't work for me)
@adamwonski - That problem does seem similar to mine but the fix of setting up forwarders is not recommended. My config is fine as far as I can tell. I setup my .ca and .com domains the same way I setup my .org domain and they work fine.
@bathory - penguin.jasoncarson.ca is the DNS server for uberpage.org. Why would my .ca and .com domains work but .org doesn't?
