Strange connection problem?

Hope somebody can help with this. I have ADSL with a D-Link modem/router that connects through a dynamic ip. Can surf the net with no problems but cannot send email or connect with gaim. Amsn works perfectly. My resolv.conf file shows "nameserver 10.x.x.x" But if I change that to "nameserver 203.xx.xxx.xxx" which is the address of my isp everything works perfectly until I next reboot then it's back to the same old address. Is there a way to keep my settings or do I need to change some other setting. In FC4 never had this problem as everything work out of the box. Now trying to set up my system with slackware 10.2.:confused:

hi,
Its rolling back to the old settings b'coz there is some script which runs when you reboot the system and its this script who's changing the settings there in /etc/resolv.conf.

How do you initiate the internet connection ??? B'coz this script is somewhere there only.

e.g i connect using #pppoe-start.
/etc/ppp/pppoe.conf has the default settings which comes up whenever i boot my system

a part of my /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf

Quote:

# Obtain DNS server addresses from the peer (recent versions of pppd only)
# In old config files, this used to be called USEPEERDNS. Changed to
# PEERDNS for better Red Hat compatibility
PEERDNS=no

DNS1=202.56.x.y
DNS2=202.56.a.b
so look out for something like this, change it. Or re-run the setup for the internet connection.

regards
