Strange connection problem?
Hope somebody can help with this. I have ADSL with a D-Link modem/router that connects through a dynamic ip. Can surf the net with no problems but cannot send email or connect with gaim. Amsn works perfectly. My resolv.conf file shows "nameserver 10.x.x.x" But if I change that to "nameserver 203.xx.xxx.xxx" which is the address of my isp everything works perfectly until I next reboot then it's back to the same old address. Is there a way to keep my settings or do I need to change some other setting. In FC4 never had this problem as everything work out of the box. Now trying to set up my system with slackware 10.2.

Its rolling back to the old settings b'coz there is some script which runs when you reboot the system and its this script who's changing the settings there in /etc/resolv.conf. How do you initiate the internet connection ??? B'coz this script is somewhere there only. e.g i connect using #pppoe-start. /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf has the default settings which comes up whenever i boot my system a part of my /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf Quote:
