Pent@NET package for Linux

INRODUNTION:
THIS HOWTO'S WILL COVER PENT@NET DVB CARD INSTALLATION
AND CONFIGURATION UNDER LINUX FOR SPECILY SETUP FOR
INTERNET VIA SATELITE ON MY SUCSEESFULL EXPERIENCE. AND I
WRITTEN THIS HOWTO WITH MY EXPERINECE AND HELP OF PENT@NET
DRIVER INSTALL AND README FILES TRY TO MAKE MORE EASY TO THE
POINT.

REQUIREMENTS:
---------------
Download latest Linux driver from http://www.pentamedia.com for your distribution
If you want to upgrade kernel then
Download Linux kernel from http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/
Red hat Linux can be download at http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux

Linux kernel 2.4.x or greater
pent@net tested on kernel 2.4.0, 2.4.1, 2.4.2, 2.4.3, 2.4.4, 2.4.5, 2.4.6, 2.4.7, 2.4.8
2.4.9, 2.4.10 2.4.12 2.4.14 2.4.15 2.4.16 2.4.17, 2.4.18

I checked pent@net on Red hat Linux 9.0, 8.0, 7.0, 7.2, 7.3
With kernel 2.4.7-10, 2.4.10, 2.4.20-8, 2.4.18, 2.4.18-3, and some 2.2.x series some of
them was sucessfull but due to kernal upgrading for Pent@net i faced many other compatibilty
issue with some other application and harwade.

Everyone can understand how many days I spend to install Pent@NET with above kernel
And Linux version list, the choice is open once can use its own favorite version.

My Recommendation:

1- In my opinion you should directly go for red hat Linux 7.3
2- Please install complete Linux (otherwise will face many
installation and Compilations error during installation)
3- Use pent@net driver version 2.3.1
4- You also required kernel Source

Following are the installation instructions (I will use red hat drive file name)

Untar the pentanet-(RHx-)x.x.x.tar.gz
--> tar zxvf pentanet-RHx-2.3.1_021111.tar

This will create a subdirectory, pentanet-RHx-2.3.1
--> cd pentanet-RHx-2.3.1

--> autoheader
--> autoconf
--> aclocal
--> automake
--> ./configure

If face kernel source error, then as root create this symbol ink (for detail
See Note I* and Note II*in install file in Pent@NET net driver folder)

ln -s /usr/src/linux-2.4.x-x /usr/src/linux . (Assume u a using default
location)

--> make clean
--> make
--> make install (You have to be the root user.)

If every thing runs successfully and u did not face any error then Pent@NET card is installed
Reboot Linux machine to see that pent@net drivers start at Linux startup

The driver load with name of ‘pentanet.o if ok then enjoys your Pent@NET DVB card is Working under Linux now you can use it for Internet via Satellite or Channels

I will help little more regarding internet via satellite with EON Account.
For this u will have to use an application to configure sat and account configuration, during Pent@net driver installation the Application is also installed in both GUI and text mode just You need to compile it.

If you need the graphical application, you must compile them by manual.

--> cd pentanet-RHx-2.3.1/apps/xwinapp
--> make
--> make install

to tune the receiver to the right settings run 'pentanetx' (graphical version will run Xwindows)

Once Application Run Configure it for your Satellite frequency and other settings and Lock it.
For EON Account login open https://sdr.eutelsat.net and enter login and password.

A more detailed description See INSTALL and README file under /pentanet-RHx-2.3.1 folder

UNINSTALLING
------------------------

--> cd pentanet-RHx-2.3.1
--> make uninstall (You have to be the root user.)
