Start X session from a Linux box to another Linux box
hi,
I recently bought another box but i have only 1 monitor and right now i don't have money for monitor switch. How can from a machine A running linux to start an X session to a machine B and work like I was using machine A. I plan to connect those boxes using ethernet and I will be running Xorg. Is there a way to do this running something secure like ssh ? Any links/documentation/suggestions are welcome :) Thanks in advance :) |

You can use VNC server/client to connect between the machines.
|
Or FreeNX (server) and Knx (client) - it's like VNC but a lot smoother and faster.
|
I suppose tha all these can work even if there is no keyboard or mouse attached to the remote machine.
As for the way I want it to be really secure even if this is an Intranet. Besides SSH2, are VNC, FreeNX and Knx as secure as SSH2 is ? |
OR get a KVM Switch when you get some extra $$$
|
VNC can use encryption. But the facility usually comes in commercial versions only. Otherwise you might want to setup a VPN.
If you are not having a large enough budget and doesn't want to setup your VPN either, I'd recommend using X over SSH. |
FreeNX has an option to encrypt all traffic using SSL
