sshd won't read my host key

I've almost got SSH up and running, but it won't read my host key. When I run sshd, it says "Warning: Unprotected private key file!" and "This private key will be ignored." I have HostKey set to "/etc/ssh/ssh_host_key.pub", so I assume that it looks at both keys. I've got the permissions for ssh_host_key set to 600 and the permissions for ssh_host_key.pub to 644. That's the way it should be, isn't it? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help.
