SSH Tunnel and FTP Issues

Hi all,
I am using putty to create an SSH tunnel so that I can use FTP from behind my school's hyperactive firewall. I am able to connect to the FTP servers through the tunnel, but as soon as it gets to the LIST command, it hangs and then times out. I have tried using PASV transfers, but nothing changes. Any ideas?

I would consider just using sftp which is part of ssh.

If you can't use sftp then check that you are forwarding both ftp ports. You'll need 20 & 21.
