ssh to my box on ADSL remotely?
i ask this b/c i have no idea how to find my computer (at home) remotely and ssh into it (to get small files, etc.). the issue is that my IP always changes at home, as i'm on an ADSL connection.
can anyone suggest a way for me to find the IP of my computer remotely without having to email myself the current IP address it's on? thx for reading, y-p |
http://no-ip.com/ you can use them to set up a free domain and use their dynamic ip program to keep it redirecting to your computer when your ip changes :) works fine for my friend on dsl.

I've used dynamic dns services too, and their nice and all, but is there any other way. I could write a script that mails the output of 'ifconfig' to me, but that wouldn't be too elegant. Is there some other way?

this is just an idea, i don't know if it'll work:
maybe you could have your computer send out some sort of regular pings to a fixed address that would be remotely accessible, then use that to locate your computer. |
Oh, that's quite clever
