ssh into Debian box from a Mac running Snow Leopard?

How do I set up a Linux box on my network so that I can SSH into it and control it using VNC from my Mac mini? I've tried ssh'ing into the Linux box, but it's not recognizing who the user is. How do I find that out so that I can set up ssh & VNC on the Linux box?

Here is a link for ssh setup.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/...ation_with_ssh

Lots of info here http://www.openssh.org/

This link should help with VNC. http://www.linuxquestions.org/linux/...ent_Quickstart

I installed Webmin on my server. Then you can configure and administer ssh through Webmin. I don't use VNC, since I'm on a home network, so I can only offer a howto. SSH is secure enough on its own.

Hope this helps.

Webmin looked interesting until I discovered it's been removed from Debian since Etch. Eh well.
