SSH Connection Refused

I had been trying to setup an application called nxserver on my mandrake box, but I kept get an SSH connection refused message, so I tried connecting via Putty today and get the same message.

Unforuately I know little about linux and even less about nxserver. So I'm hoping someone might be able to help get past this hurrdle

I'm running mandrake 10.1 with KDE 3.2 and nxserver V2.7

Thanks.

Hi,
It sounds like you have a firewall not allowing the ssh connection in or you do not have ssh running. You can use top to see if sshd is running and also look at your rc.sshd file to see what port the sshd is running on you will have to configure that file also if it wasn't configured. Couple things to look at.

now that it connects I get this message as an error:

NX> 203 NXSSH running with pid: 4196
NX> 285 Enabling check on switch command
NX> 285 Enabling skip of SSH config files
NX> 200 Connected to address: 192.168.1.104 on port: 22
NX> 202 Authenticating user: nx
NX> 208 Using auth method: publickey
NX> 204 Authentication failed.

any idea what it means?

Hi,
I am not familiar with nxserver I would just try to get into your server using the ssh then go onto the nxserver. I use ssh on my server and do all but xserver and it works ok try that and it sounds like authentication is not working on the nxserver side application.
I did a search on google and saw a bit of info on nxserver.

Make sure you have the server's key loaded on the client. Without that key nx logins will fail.

do you mean
client.id_dsa.key

copied that to c:\program files\nx client\shares\key & manually loaded into session.

did this prior to sending message

Yes, that's the one. One more thing, do you have a user named nx set up on the server?
