SSH as a standalone proxy server?

I want to run a proxy server on port 1080, so I typed
Code:
ssh localhost -D 1080
That way I am able to connect to port 1080 from that server, but I can't connect to port 1080 from another client on the LAN.

What can I do so that other clients can connect to port 1080 on my server?

Have a look at your firewall settings

Generally it's not a good idea to use SSH as proxy - it's for different things. Also this port will have socks5 proxy with no authorization so anyone would be able to use it, be sure to use that only in safe LAN (ex home network).
To have port available for external clients read manpage for ssh, it covers that in at least two ways.
