squirrelmail help

I hope I am posting this in the correct area. I have been trying to set up squirrelmail on my fedora core and just keep running into brick walls. I have no clue what I am doing and am hoping someone can clarify or tell me of a better package to use.
I have fedora core 4 with the latest download of courier-imap and squirrelmail.

The courier-imap appears to be set up correctly as I can telnet to port 143. The login page appears for squirrelmail and I enter the username and password and get:
ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server.

This is different than the 111 error I was getting before I got courier-imap running.

I can not believe it is this difficult and would appreciate some guidance here one what I might do to solve the problem. Or, is there something else I should be using. I only want webmail not too interested in using a client for pop and smtp access.

Thanks

Eric Horton

in the squirrelmail config you need to tell it what type of imap server you have.

Thanks. I have gone through the config a couple of times to make sure the imap is set to courier. In addition, I have changed it to use the actual ip address of the server instead of localhost or domain name. that has helped some but not letting me log in. I am using accounts created in Linux. do I need to create mail accounts through squirrelmail somehow?

is server side sorting enabled?
what shows up in the imap log?
what is your MAXPERIP setting at?

I found and ran configtest.php in the /src folder. This came back good. it send the setup was fine.

I apologize but I do not know what "server side sorting enabled" is

MAXPERIP=6

I can not find the imap log. I looked under /var/log but there was nothing there about imap.
I am very sorry, but I am very new and ignorant to linux. Everything is a struggle. i appreciate your patience

I just found the server side sorting. It is set to true.

I found this in the error_log. It appears to be what you were looking for.

3 of these are recorded at each login attempt. I understand that they are saying, but don't understand how to correct.
