squid service fails to stop


i installed squid and edited /etc/squid.conf
just port # and allo all
when i do service squid restart
it fails to stop but start ok
also even i only stop it by /etc/rc./init.d/squid restart
it hvae some problem in stoping but it starts very well
so how to overcome the problem???

Open up your /etc/init.d/squid file and find out what it's actually doing to execute the "kill". The file is probably no more than 40 actual lines of script - and if you go through them all - 1 at a time - you will find out how the script is doing it's job, and also find where it's going wrong.

Remember to check 'ps' frequently while you are going through the script - so you can find out if squid is running, and if it's running with the same PID as you (and the script) think it's running as.
