Squid proxy/cache on a dail-up internet connection

Hi All,
I am trying to use the squid proxy/cache on a dail up internet connection. The problem that I am having is that Squid does not detect the ppp0 interface that gets created when I dail in. As a result I cannot browse through the Squid proxy.

To get the Squid to detect my I have to restart the Squid, after I dail in and the ppp0 interface is created. My question is how do I fix this problem without having to restart squid ? On a dailup connection having the squid cache speeds up things.

The config of my system: Suse Linux 8.1, Ethernet Card( eth0 -unused, has a static IP address), an externel serial modem ( ppp0 when I dail in, dhcp ip address). I am using Squid 2.5.

Thanks,
Manas

squid is really not very good for dialup.

you can restart it in your ppp scripts but you should check this out. It's made for dialup
