Squid NTLM authentication and Windows 7

Greets all,

I have Squid with NTLM authentication working on a Slackware 13 box and a Windows 2003 R2 active directory working. At least, it's working for all clients running Windows XP with IE or Firefox. Recently, 2 users got new machines with Windows 7 on them. Firefox still works but IE8 does not. The user must supply a username and password.

Having read up on the problem, it seems that MS has changed something regarding NTLM auth with Windows 7, and is planning to shelf NTLM and standarise on kerberos. I am however not able to figure out what I must do to have authentication work as always (no logon name/password promt) for users browsing via squid proxy, for all Windows clients (XP/Vista/Windows 7)

Having Slackware 13, getting kerberos to work was a mission. In fact, I am using samba 2.2.5(wbinfo) and heimdal-1.1.8 at the moment. Can anyone help me with advice on how to configure Slackware/Squid to work with squid_kerberos_auth.

Thanks!

Late reply,

Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2: Send NTLMv2 response only

how to change:
secpol.msc > Local Policies > Security Options > Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
