spyware causing heavy traffic

i always thought linux is free of spyware n viruses ... but today i had a hint of it .. my network monitor is showing heavy traffic ... inspite of me using internet .. even i am not sitting at p.c still its doing heavy downloading .. and i didnt put anything on download neither i have kept system on update ? these symptoms are reminding me of WINDOZE days ... can it be possible spyware .. i never heard of spyware in context to linux .. do linux have spyware ? i tried to get into my process table n track it .. but not much success ... tried netstat ... but still not much success ...
does anyone have any idea ? do linux really have spywares !! i m really disappointed , although tht is digestable ..

You didn't happen to make a cron job for the yum updates, did you?

no ... in fact i have disabled crond coz it slows down teh boot process ... i dont need cron .. i m normally a single user .. i mean .. its only me who use it
is there any possibility of spyware ?

Do you have ssh access from The Internet?
