Spamassassin makes the system hang

Hi,

I'm running a sendmail server on RHEL AS 3 . Recently I installed spamassassin-3.0.3-1 and configured procmail to to filter spam mails. It was working fine , but very soon I could find the system hanged with message "Out of memory- Killed Spamassassin". The server had 256 MB of RAM at the time and I upgraded to 512 MB and ran spamassassin again. The result was same and the system hanged very soon.

Is this problem due to shortage of RAM? How can I reolve this issue? Please help.

Regards,

Jomy

FWIW: I no longer use sendmail, but back when I did, I invoked SA using a sendmail milter in a "pre-queue" tense (before the e-mail was submitted to procmail), not through a procmail recipe. When using a milter, you have the ability to specify the number of concurrent SA processes that can be kicked off. Without specifying this limit, SA would cause my system to run out of memory during high inbound volume times.

My point being - it might be worth your time to investigate implementing SA through a milter versus using a procmail recipe.
