some strange error while pinging

i start pinging some host... it gives me some ~5-10 replies and i see this error:

WARNING: failed to install socket filter
: Protocol not available

then it continues to ping it normally...

Have you compiled and installed a new kernel recently?

yes i'm using a kernel that i compiled myself, why?

Because I remember seeing something about socket filters in the kernel config list. You may have accidentally left out some options for socket filters. Double check your config.
