Some queries related to DNS(bind)

Hi....

I have some queries related to the Domain Name System (DNS)..and would appreciate if I could get them answered by anyone who has a better idea than me .....

Ques 1
--------

When does there arise a need to create a sub-domain?

ques - 2
----------

Whats the conceptual difference between a zone and a sub-domain?

ques -3
----------

Suppose I have a host named 'amit' on a domain 'redhat.com'; Then, do i refer to that host as 'amit.redhat.com'? ( i.e assign it a FQDN? )

Or will the domain name 'redhat.com' be appended automatically at the end of the hostname 'amit' ?

ques - 4
----------

When does there arise a need to divide a domain in multiple zones?

I would appreciate if someone could give practical examples from the real-world...

(by the way , these r my own queries and not any homework or so...i've just put them ques by ques for easy discussion...)

Thanx and Regards,

amit

Here is some information that I found helpful:

http://www.tfug.org/helpdesk/general/dnsnotes.html

http://www.bind9.net/books

The Oreilly books are the bibles and would be the best resource, which you can buy or paid subscribe to Safari bookshelf and have access to the books online at http://www.oreilly.com

Also checkout the Links Library on www.bind9.net

and comp.protocols.dns.bind newsgroup via
http://groups.google.com which you can search
