Question SMC1233A-TX adapter troubles or....

Hello all you linux gurus and gurettes out there
I am quite new to linux, well new in sence of using it on everyday basis... and unfortunately I ran into some problems of the following matter:

so... a small netwerk with windows (i hear u screamin b0000 dis and linux... several RedHat 9 boxes and windows xp / 2k3 boxes... non domain, werkgroup environment with the only fancy thing being balance loading being handled by a switch. redhat was installed and configured and updated around a week ago... primarily use of the box that causes troubles is samba... no inet connection only my local subnet
it worked fine for about a week no reboots nuttin, but as i started to use more workstations regularly on the netwerk i noticed some bad stuff happening... in particular.. when this RH box that causes trouble is being acessed by windows xp. when i copy large amounts of data like 3 or 4 ISOs from one or 2 XP or 2K3 boxes... the connection from RH box to the switch is lost... this happens at different times no patter from what i can tell...
i realise that it has to be something connected to the nic in that box... but all the nics (well almost all) were purchased @ same time & they are of exactly same maker & model... so i really dont get why would it work fine on other RH boxes that i have... given that i copy same amount of data.. of same kind from same sources...

if any1 can @ least tell me what is the direction i should look @ that would b great help already...
maybe there is some program out there to analyze what is happening? cause i know some basic things about packets and I tried using Iris, but that turned out nuttin... the traffic sent to the problematic box is not anyhow different then other boxes... besides exactly at the time when connection drops there is nuttin abnormal in packets... they look exatly same.
I mean it shouldnt b a big trouble to go and purchase a different nic, but i am really curious about this problem... because it looks very very effective with no logical explanation that i could find so far

PS Ofcourse everything is up 2 date & especially the nic's drivers... when i was installin the drivers i had no error messages or anything... in fact originally RH did excelent job and found the card... i just installed new drivers because of the later version then provided with RH originally

soooo anyways hope some 1 can help me, ty ty ty !!!
