SMB.Conf --> valid users = %G????
What I really want is for my users to be able to access certain directories on my one share without having to enter a password...ever. So, of course, I'm using username mapping, and I've sorted my users into groups. The ownership of the five directories in my share is root.group, for all the directories.
Right now, for my valid users entry, I'm just adding Samba usernames in the comma-delimited list, and it's working, but after a while, I perceive this will be quite unsightly and illogical. My understanding of the %G option for valid users was that I'd be able to access the share based on whether or not I was part of a group that owned these directories. However, after logging into my Windows account, I can access only my user's home share without entering a password; to access the Data share, I have to enter a password whenever I log into Windows and point Explorer to my file server.
I'm looking for a way around this. How can I configure Samba to let me navigate freely through the file server without having to login any more after I log in to Windows? I'm trying to maximize my username mapping setting.
