- hey guys here is my smb.conf

Quote:

[global]
workgroup = HOME
netbios name = samba

[homes]
read only = no
browseable = yes

[shared]
path = /home/samba/desktkop/sam
browseable = yes
read only = no
- but my problem is that i can see the samba in my windows network places but i cant access it, it says that i dont have permission. normally i expect it to ask for authentication so that i cant input my samba user that i created but it didnt.

You need a
Code:

security = user
in your global section. You should read the man page of smd.conf for more options.

Maybe searching befor posting helps?
see this thread about nearly the same issue, you may also need the "Map to guest" option, at least use the "security=user" option and so on. Go look for an howto or a more complete smb.conf (example file in doc folder?!)
