Small Network configuration with Linux as Server and Windows as Clients

Hello,

I would like to configure a master linux server which will serve as file server, ftp server, file and print sharing services for windows xp clients in the network.
I would like to create a small domain and share the Internet access through proxy from linux to all windows and monitor the client access.

Which distribution of linux flavor will be suitable for my requirement and should be stable in system state.

Kindly let me know your valuable suggestions.

Thanks..

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

Planning to deploy Ubuntu, also will give a try with Centos since it is community enterprise version, should be always stable. And this is for a small office purpose.

Please let me know your inputs.

Thanks..

if you thinking of ubuntu then i suggest you to use debian use without GUI
for print server cups is there
for fileserver use samba

but i not familiar with small domain ,
sharing internet is not the issue because iptables is there for you and its very stable

like my office i create several gateway using iptables, i do it for several segment LAN
for different department because different restriction need to setup
