slow response from network services

firstly, i would like to apologize if this question has been answered already but a search turned up nothing. probably due to the fact that i do not know what to look for.

i recently added a router to my network that also is a dhcp server. before i had a computer with a static ip being the dhcp server. i am keeping the ip on it static so that i can still use its nfs shares without changing my hosts config everytime it gets a new ip.

everything works fine with the new ip which is 192.168.1.2 changed from 192.168.0.1, however when i change the gateway on the static server to the router located at 192.168.1.1, all network services go very slow, including apache and ssh. it works but takes some time for the connection it seems.

it only happens when it has the gateway changed to the router.
my other computers using dhcp addresses range from 192.168.1.10 to 192.168.1.60

i cant figure out why it does this. any light shed on this annoying problem would be appreciated. it kills me to use webmin with such painfull speeds.

thanks
goran

I had a similar problem that I solved by putting the WAN dns servers directly into my router. You also might want to check the MTU settings by running ifconfig. Also might want to make sure the tunnel to ipv6 stuff is off.
