Slow download speeds - Can I change this?
Greetings!
I am a new Linux user and I am pleased to find a warm, friendly board on Linux. I am wondering why my computer downloads much slower then it should with Linux vs when I had Winblows 2000 on it. I ran a speed test on Toast.net on my other WinXP machine and then on the SuSE 10.0 Linux box. I did this 3 times with the results being close each time. Download results: Downloading 1,396,595 bytes SuSE 10.0 Box = 416.068 Sec. WinXP Box = 3.281 Sec. Uploading results: Uploading 1,059,140 bytes SuSE 10.0 Box = 22 Sec. WinXP Box = 22 Sec. The WinXP Box is a newer computer but when I had Win 2000 on the SuSE 10.0 Box they would clock very close to the same transfer rates. I have a 4MB cable internet service from Comcast and I would like both boxes to have close to the same transfer rates so I can give SuSE a fair shake and try and make the switch to Linux for good :) Thanks in advance! |
Go here http://www.dslreports.com/tools Run the Tweak test and follow instructions it should give some info on tweaks for linux.

Thanks for the great site link. I try to run the tweak test and after about 1 min the transfer light stops blinking but it does not say finished. I let it run for one hour and it still was not done so I think that it must time out but not show an error.
Any other ideas? |
Slow Browsing
You are suffering from the slow browsing problem. There
are various cures for this. 1. Turn off support for IPv6 2. Enter your ISPs nameserver IP addresses in /etc/resolve.conf rather than using DHCP to do it. 3. Update the software on your router to the latest version. For me either 1. or 3. worked 2 did not. For other people 2 works. |
