Slackware dropping 50% of Packets

I recently installed Slackware on my machine and, despite being able to connect to the internet, my connec
tion is really slow.

When I run ifconfig this is what it returns:
eth0
Link encap: Ethernet HWaddr 14:da:e9:f4:83:f4
inet addr: 192.168.0.49 Bcast: 255.255.255.255 Mask: 255.255.255.0

RX bytes: 804363 (785.5 KiB) TX bytes: 74062 (72.3 KIB)

Tx packets: 53 errors: 0 dropped: 0 overruns: 0 carrier: 0
collisions: 0 txqueuelen: 0
RX bytes: 3616 (3.5 KiB) TX bytes: 3616 (3.3 KIB)

Whenever I try to go to Network Settings under System Settings, it always says, "Could not parse the XML file ()."

I don't really know what's going wrong other than packets are being dropped horribly.

Additionally, I know the hardware is fine due to by dual-boot OS working perfectly, and I'm using the Realtek 8111e gigabit LAN controller.

I installed the driver from here and it worked perfectly. Sorry for the pointless post but maybe it will help someone else.
