Hi,
Longtime Slackware user, first time posting. My first experience with Slack 10.1, and not a good one.
Simply no luck getting DNS client to run, even though I can ping local and internet hosts by IP address. This happens in either DHCP or with a static address. What is worse, I find that when I reset eth0, I can no longer access the internet thru my router. If I add a default gateway, I can ping by IP address again, but pinging a FQDN returns "unknown host." Any ideas?
Thanks
I thought commenting out the "search" entry and entering the IP of my router or my ISP's nameserver in resolv.conf would do it, but no luck, even with resetting the eth0 interface.
After setting DHCP or static IP thru netconfig, I always made sure to edit resolv.conf with the right entries. This is very puzzling, as I've never had any problems with the Slackware name resolution. Could I be missing a network app or a library?
