slackware and dhcp

I am running slackware 10.1 and trying to configure it to connect to my home network. I have one router as gateway 10.0.0.138 and the rest of the computers have addresses of the type: 10.0.0.* .
Of some unknown reason I got two network cards in my computer , one of them isn't working but I can't get it out of the computer as it is probably included with the mother board. The working network card is realtek 8139 ethernet card.

When I ping 10.0.0.138 it returns host unreachable. Already tried using netconfig and dhcpcd... The problem is that I never know If I configure the right ethernet card, as I might be trying to connect through the bad card... How can I make sure I configure the right card , and is there any simple solution to this problem.

btw , I already tried running fc4 and ubuntu and it worked just fine. I got another computer on the network running slackware 10.1 with the same realtek 8139 and it is also working just fine.

Can you disable the onboard lan though BIOS?
