Hello LQ users. I`m a brazilian guy so at first I`m sorry for any language mistakes.
I`ve installed today a new full installation of slackware 13.1 on my pc and I couldn`t get myself connected to the internet. This is a brand new pc (2 months old) and I was used to run win7 on it.
My network (wired) config is:
modem (internet - 10mb dsl) -> router -> pcs
The modem is 100% online and doesn`t depend of the router to get connected. It basically "throws" the connection to the router and everyone connected to that router gets the internet connection. My router is my gateway and dns for the pcs (2 pcs: 1 mac and 1 dual boot pc slackware13.1/win7). Win7 and Mac are working just fine and I don`t have anything to complain about.
After the slackware 13.1 installation a netconfig script runs and I config the network properly. I can ping my router (192.168.0.1) and I can ping my modem (192.168.1.1) but I can`t get proper access to the internet.
At first I can`t ping websites from the internet, I have to run: route add default gw 192.168.0.1 eth0
Then after that I`m able to translate names and my ping on google is "successful", I mean, it doesn`t show any error messages on the ping command and its VERY slow like 10~20 sec for each ping reply. And even when I try to ctrl+c it takes about 10~20sec to give up and return the command line.
Whenever I try to run the website in a browser, it keeps on "Looking up..." like if it didn`t translate the name, but I believe I`m getting no response from the internet.
Anyway I`m kind of lost here. Any help will be great.
Thanks in advance and I`m sorry if I didn`t explain something not quite well.
Please post the output of the commands 'ifconfig' and 'route' when run as root.
Also, please post the output of 'dmesg' 'lsmod' and 'lspci'
Also, do you know what brand and model of ethernet controller you have on this machine? (If not, Windows 7's device manager, or whatever the bloody thing is called in Windows 7, would be able to tell you.)

Thanks for the very clear explanation of your system and your problem.
Something went wrong during running netconfig; after running it the default gateway should be automatically set. What is the output from grep GATEWAY /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf? You could try running netconfig again, see if that fixes the problem and post again.
Right after posting here I`ve tried to install Debian just to check if I was going to have the same problem. And after the install I couldn`t even reach my router, so I realized that something was definitely wrong and it wasn`t my slack installation. I`m going to reinstall my Slackware13.1 copy and in a few minutes I`ll be back here to answer your replies properly with the correct info you requested.

It`s an integrated ethernet from Asus M4A89GTD-pro. And the adapter listed as "Network Adapter" in the device manager on my windows 7 is: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.
Sorry for the delay on the answer. I had some installation problem here.
So, after a few tries of installing the Slackware13.1 again I realized that it always some random errors happened:
1) libs were empty
2) lilo errors
3) frozen installation
4) etc etc
And when I happened to finish installing for the very last time, the first thing I`ve done after loggin was a ping to google and that was it. Working. I really don`t know what happened back there but it was probably because of some bad media burned or something like that.
I really appreciated all your help. The problem is now solved.
