shell accounts

One month ago I created 2 (free) shell accounts (on winxp).
Now I can't log in there from the terminal of Fedora Core 4.
I try telnet or ssh and when I type the password I get:

permission denied, please try again

Passwords are definitely correct
I'm using a different network now
(different internet provider, router (shared between 3 computers))

Why is that?

The other question:
In gnome graphic interface in the top right corner
(just to the left of the date) there is a cirle-shaped icon which is responsible for updates. Normally there is
a 'tick' on it. However, today it went grey, and a question
mark appeared on it.
When I move the mouse pointer on it (without clicking)
it says: Error connecting to RHN...

Why is that?
thanks

When I click on the circle-shaped update icon I get a warning:

Error: <ProtocolError for xmlrpc.rhn.redhat.com /APPLET: 502 Proxy Error>
